Chailey Repair Café opens in August!

What do you do with a broken toaster? Or with a bike when the wheel runs out of true? Or with a sweater full of moth holes? Bin it? No way! Chailey Repair Café opens on Saturday 11th August at 1000hrs.

At Chailey Parish Hall (on the A275 adjacent to The Five Bells pub near Chailey Green) everything will be about repairs. Starting from 1000hrs and ending at 1300hrs, various volunteer repair experts will be available to help make all possible repairs free of charge. People visiting the Repair Café can bring along their broken items from home. Toasters, lamps, hair dryers, clothes, bikes, toys, crockery... anything that is broken is welcome. And can more than likely be repaired. Repair Café specialists almost always have the know-how.

By promoting repairs, Chailey Repair Café wants to help reduce mountains of waste. Even things which practically have nothing wrong with them, and which could easily be used again after a simple repair are taken to the tip. Sadly, many people have forgotten that they can have things repaired. Chailey Repair Café wants to change all that.

Repair Cafés also put neighbours in touch with each other in a new way, as well as discovering that a lot of know-how and practical skills can be found close to home. Repairs can save money and resources, and can help minimise CO2 emissions. “But above all, Repair Café just wants to show how much fun repairing things can be, and how easy it often is.

Chailey Repair Café will run once a month in 2018, on a Saturday morning 10am – 1pm, on 11 August, 1 September, 13 October and 15 December , and on Saturday afternoon 2-5pm on 24 November. 2019 dates to follow!
